The Maths Online Exam is the biggest hurdle between you and your Functional Skills Level 2 Maths qualification. The exam itself is Ofqual regulated and approved. For those of you that may not know what the Functional Skills Level 2 Maths qualification. It is an equivalent qualification. Meaning that it is considered a PASS grade (a grade C or level 4) in either GCSE English or GCSE Maths. So can be used in place of a GCSE qualification. Exam structure
The exam will be split into 2 different papers. These papers will be taken all at once on the dame day. You will be required to pass both in order to receive your Functional Skills Level 2 Maths Qualification. These 2 papers are:
The Non-Calculator Paper
The non-calculator paper is the first of the 2 papers that you will be required to take. You will have 30 minutes to do so. It involves answering a set of questions without the use of your calculator. The topics these questions will cover will vary between the different papers we provide. But will follow the basic curriculum.
The Calculator Paper
The calculator paper is the second of the 2 papers that you will be required to take. You will have 1 hour 30 minutes to do so. It involves answering a large set of questions with the use of your calculator. Please not that the calculator can NOT be a scientific calculator. The topics these questions will cover will again vary between our different papers. But again will follow the same basic curriculum.
What to expect on the day of the exam
When the day/time you selected arrives, you will be sent an email by one of our Ofqual approved invigilators 15 minutes before the exam time. Once you have joined the Zoom call they will guide you through the process of setting up for your exam, ensuring that you will be in exam conditions.
Once all of the checks have been completed and passed. The invigilator will then send you the link for the exam web page. From there you will be logged in and once you are ready and have read the instructions, you can start your exam!

Finishing the Exam
As the rules state, for the first part of the exam you will be required to put your calculator (if you have one) aside. Which you can grab later once the second part of the exam starts. Making sure that you have no equipment that is not approved for the 2 papers.
Once you have finished and submitted the exam (yay!), you will go through a few small checks with the invigilator before you can leave. Once they are done and you don’t need to ask the invigilator any questions, you can leave the call. Then you will have to wait for your results, which should be received within 16 working days.
Requirements for taking the exam
The Room
To take the exam, you will be required to be in a room suitable for the exam. This means that no one can be in the room or be able to enter the room at all during the exam. As you will have to maintain exam conditions throughout the exam.
Your PC
The biggest requirement alongside the room itself is your PC. Due to some limitations, you can only have a Windows or MacBook PC. So Chromebooks, iPads, mobile phones, and so on will not be allowed. Only laptops and desktops
Hardware
If not included with your pc, you will need to bring a microphone, headphones/speakers, and a webcam. This is so you can be properly monitored during your exam and so you can communicate with the invigilator.
Software
You will be required to have Zoom installed (You can’t use the browser version!) in order to take the exam. As well as having an appropriate web browser that will support the exam website. This includes Chrome, Edge, and Safari.
Wi-Fi
A minimum requirement for Wi-Fi will have to be met in order to take the exam. This is because you could disconnect from the Zoom call, or even have the website not load correctly. The minimum is download:10Mbps and upload:1Mbps.
And Yourself
Of course, you will have to bring yourself to your exam. We do an ID check just to make sure! Just make sure you come prepared, with any resources that you could need (a simple calculator and scrap paper).
FAQ
A Functional Skills Level 2 exam is equivalent to the GCSE exam.
In total the Functional Skills Level 2 Maths exam takes 2 hours to complete. The exam is split into the Non-Calculator exam and the Calculator exam. The Non-Calculator exam takes 30 minutes to complete, whereas the Calculator exam takes 1 hour and 30 minutes (90 minutes) to complete.
The base price for the Functional Skills Maths Level 2 Exam is £225. This price can increase on a few minor things, such as, short notice for booking, Saturday bookings, or if you would also like to purchase the course alongside the exam to study with.
